Pharmaceutical waste in government facilities must be disposed of properly according to the same federal regulations as hospitals and medical clinics across the country.
VA hospitals, military bases, government medical and research facilities manage a large amount of pharmaceuticals for the military and civilians. Properly disposing of medication waste is critical to prevent environmental contamination and drug diversion.
Rx Destroyer™ partners with VA hospitals and government facilities to provide pharmaceutical waste disposal solutions. Our easy-to-use disposal containers instantly neutralize medications to render them non-retrievable, meeting all DEA and EPA regulations. They are safe, easy and efficient for busy staff and effective on many types of pharmaceuticals including, pills, liquids, lozenges and more.
Compliant Drug Disposal in VA Clinics
VIA Directive 1114 establishes the policies and procedures for disposing of patient-issued controlled substance medications established by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). VIA Directive 1114 details the responsibilities of VA hospitals to follow the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010 (Disposal Act) and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 21 effective September 9, 2014.
Prior to the Disposal Act of 2010, there were limited options to dispose of unwanted, unused or expired medications. This led to widespread flushing of medications and controlled substances causing substantial groundwater pollution. Improper controls of controlled substances also leads to drug diversion, contributing to the misuse and abuse of prescription medication.
21 CFR and the Disposal Act
The goal of 21 CFR is consistent with the Disposal Act, to set parameters for preventing drug diversion of controlled substances with various methods for collecting and destroying pharmaceutical waste. Another goal consistent with the Disposal Act is to decrease the amount of pharmaceutical waste introduced into public waters through improper disposal.
Rx Destroyer™ for Government Drug Disposal Solutions
We differ from other pharmaceutical disposal system companies in our commitment to educate and train our customers.
We provide on-site support, industry best practices and seamless integration. The lack of health care clinicians receiving proper education and training for compliant drug disposal in government facilities is the largest factor contributing to improper disposal.
Our convenient disposal containers are available in a variety of sizes to meet the needs of any size of facility, with options for mounting, lock box and tethered caps. Simply throw unused medications in the container and shake. Our patented formula quickly renders medications non-retrievable which meets DEA regulations.
We educate and support our government clients to meet DEA and EPA guidelines.
